Corrections
Public and dated, including the corrections we made to ourselves before anyone else saw them.
How this page works
Every substantive change to a factual claim is logged here with the date, the page, what it said before, and why it changed. Typographical fixes and rewording are not logged; anything that changes what a reader would take away is.
The log starts with three corrections made during the build, before the site was published. Including them is deliberate. A corrections page that begins empty tells you nothing about whether the desk actually checks its own work, and these three are the kind of error that would otherwise have shipped.
The log
Typefaces moved off Google Fonts, and the privacy page changed with them. A performance measurement on a throttled mobile profile showed a first visit shifting the entire page: cumulative layout shift of 0.68 against a 0.1 budget, caused by the Google Fonts swap landing about two and a half seconds in. The three typefaces are now served from this domain and preloaded, which took layout shift to zero and largest contentful paint from roughly 2.1s to 1.3s. Consequence for readers: the privacy page previously stated that your browser contacts Google on every visit and that Google receives your IP address. That was accurate when written and is no longer true, so the section was rewritten.
Registration walkthrough — referral eligibility was missing. The draft explained how to enter a referral code without mentioning that entire regions are excluded from the referral programme. Checking Binance's referral terms showed that users registered in the European Economic Area became ineligible to participate in any capacity from 1 July 2026, and that Singapore, Japan and Israel have their own exclusions. A eligibility check is now the first section of that page, before anything else. Caught before publication.
Platform failure file — FTX repayment status was out of date. An early draft described FTX creditors as still waiting with an uncertain outcome, which reflected the position in 2023 rather than now. Distributions began in 2024; roughly $10.3bn had been paid by March 2026, and after the July 2026 distribution the main customer classes had passed 100% of their November 2022 claim value. The page now states this, along with the part that does not improve: repayment is in dollars against a balance frozen in 2022, delivered over four years. Caught before publication.
Legal ground file — US market-structure legislation was described as settled. An outline referred to the CLARITY Act as though it were law. As of our check on 25 August 2026 it had passed the House in July 2025 and was still moving through the Senate. The page now says so and tells readers to check the current status rather than relying on ours. Separately, the GENIUS Act, covering payment stablecoins, was signed in July 2025 and is in force — the two were at risk of being conflated. Caught before publication.
Telling us about an error
Write to the desk. Pointing at the specific sentence helps. We would rather hear about something small than have it sit there, and we do not treat a correction as a defeat — the editorial policy explains why a page like this exists at all on a site that also carries a referral link.
